Description
BASIC FUNCTION

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled building and grounds maintenance tasks including a variety of routine building, electrical and plumbing repairs, routine mechanical maintenance and service work, and the operation of a variety of construction and maintenance equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, front end loaders and similar equipment.

Job Duties
STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  1. Operates a variety of construction and maintenance equipment such as runway sweepers, tractors, backhoes, bulldozers, dump trucks, forklifts, front-end loaders, tractor-mounted mowing machines, and similar equipment in order to dig trenches, load trucks, move materials, remove snow/ice, and maintain grounds, roadways and other areas; performs routine maintenance on assigned equipment by checking fluid levels, lubricating, and adjusting equipment as necessary.
  2. Performs a variety of minor building repairs such as repairing or replacing baseboard molding, ceiling and floor tile, doors, locks and windows, patching leaking roofs and similar work.
  3. Performs a variety of rough and finished carpentry work including remodeling a variety of structures and building bookcases, cabinets, docks, fences, garbage boxes, picnic tables, shelves, stairs, and other wooden structures and fixtures.
  4. Hangs and/or repairs paneling, plasterboard, and other drywall materials; tapes, spackles, and sands drywall and prepares it for painting.
  5. Paints a variety of interior and exterior building surfaces, fixtures and furniture; prepares surfaces for painting by sanding, scraping, washing, and filling as necessary; mixes paints, stains, varnishes, and other protective coatings as required; applies paint or other protective coatings to surface being finished using brushes, rollers, and/or spray painting equipment.
  6. Performs a variety of minor electrical repairs such as replacing or repairing broken fixtures, outlets, and switches.
  7. Installs, maintains, and repairs a variety of plumbing fixtures including faucets, flushometers, sinks, toilets, urinals, and water and drain lines.
  8. Inspects, maintains, and services heating, ventilating and other mechanical equipment including pumps and motors; lubricates, oils, and adjusts equipment as necessary; may clean and perform minor repairs on oil burners and boilers.
  9. Builds and installs concrete catch basins, retaining walls, walkways and other structures as directed; builds concrete forms and places reinforcing steel as required; mixes and pours concrete; trowels, sweeps, edges and finishes new concrete as necessary.
STATEMENT OF OTHER JOB DUTIES
  1. May perform a variety of routine grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, edging, and trimming lawns, watering and weeding flowerbeds, and sawing, splitting, and stacking wood.
  2. May perform a variety of routine janitorial tasks such as cleaning and stocking restrooms, cleaning and waxing floors, and setting up facilities for a variety of meetings and other events.
  3. May perform pavement maintenance such as pavement painting, cutting, routing, and crack sealing, surface coating, and patching.
  4. May act as a lead, coordinating the efforts of temporary help, work release inmates, peer and/or lower level maintenance personnel under the direct or indirect supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor or Lead Technician as required.
  5. May be assigned to perform FAA Part 139 inspections in accordance with established Airport Operational procedures, file daily inspection reports, correct minor discrepancies to FAA Part 139 standards, and assist the Airport Electrician with 2400 volt runway lighting repairs.
  6. May be assigned to perform wildlife control in the vicinity of the air operations areas in accordance with established wildlife control procedures, and maintain detailed wildlife control records under the direct supervision of USDA Wildlife Services or the Airport Wildlife Manager.
  7. Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of experience performing a variety of skilled building and grounds maintenance or building construction work; OR, any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Must pass job related tests.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

A valid Washington State Driver's License is required for employment.
Possession of a commercial endorsement within 90 days of employment is required or as coordinated by the Airport Maintenance Supervisor.
Possession of a valid first aid card within 90 days of employment is required or as coordinated by the Airport Maintenance Supervisor.
Must be able to obtain a herbicide and insecticide license if required.
A job offer will be conditioned on satisfactory results of a post-offer medical examination or inquiry.
Possession of a Department of Labor and Industries certified Asbestos Worker or Supervisor Certificate is required as assigned by the Airport Maintenance Supervisor.

SUPERVISION


Employees report to a senior level facility maintenance supervisor or manager, as assigned.
