Job Description
GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Application Engineer is the primary technical sales liaison between BTM and the customers and distributors. The purpose of the Application Engineer is to understand the customer’s functional problem and to provide a quote to solve the problem. The quote will often be machinery or tooling, using the data provided by the customer and the Application Engineers’ knowledge of BTM products and practices
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Correspond with the customer to determine their functional problem
Track all active quotes within the quote log
Collect and organize all customer information in the quote folder
Utilize technical knowledge and experience to create conceptual solutions to customer problems
Utilize CAD and/or other methods to illustrate conceptual solutions
Concept special machines for customer-specific applications, utilizing BTM core competencies whenever possible
Concept and modify BTM standard units and customer-specific applications
Price out concepts
Create quotes for the customer in the BTM quote format
Process POs into the BTM ERP system
Kick-off won quotes to the BTM project team
Discuss quotes regularly at meetings with the Director of Applications Engineering, as well as with other teams, including upper management
Be present at lessons learned meetings to review previously won quotes
Represent BTM in a technical sales capacity, including but not limited to: Presentations, Phone interface, Email, Person-to-person interaction, Trade shows, or demonstrations on BTM’s behalf
Maintain a high degree of professionalism with internal and external customers
Travel as required
Follow all company QMS requirements
Perform other duties and tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experienced in one or more of the following areas.
Experienced machinist or machine builder
Previous application experience
Graduate engineer or equivalent
Ability to learn all aspects of Tog-L-Loc. processes and tooling
Ability to discuss aspects of piercing, processes, and tooling
Ability to understand automation machinery relating to BTM’s core competencies
Mathematical ability at the level required to perform engineering functions
Excellent reasoning ability for on-the-job problem solving
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Self-directed and driven
MS Suite competency
Can work well as a team
Can work well as an individual
Willing to travel as required – has a passport or the ability to get one
Can sit up to 90% of the day
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma.
GED equivalency
Preferred Requirements
Trade school or apprenticeship
Bachelor's degree in a relevant Engineering field, or 5+ years of relevant experience
