JOB GOAL
The Building Coordinator will provide direct support to the instructional special education and regular education personnel to
ensure compliance under the Procedural Safeguards and Regulations are provided under IDEA. The Coordinator will assist in
curriculum development and meeting the required Arkansas Standards and providing assurances of implementing the individual
education plan
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
o Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution
o Valid Arkansas Teaching Certificate with required special endorsement
o Training in the district's dyslexia program preferred
o 2 or more years of experience as an ELA/Reading or Dyslexia teacher preferred
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Provide Direct Supervision to the special education teachers for compliance of IDEA requirements
? Support and facilitate certificated of special populations, general education teachers, and other staff to ensue assurances
of confidentiality of students in accordance with both state and federal laws.
? Participate in professional development trainings and staff development as required and assigned
? Assist school administration in developing the scheduled for SPED instruction
? Monitor the progress and academic performance of students with special needs that is reflected in the formative and
summative evaluations to ensure students meet the desired outcome/goals
? Will ensure appropriate assessments for eligibility are administered for eligibility
? Assist the special education and general education teachers, and paraprofessionals to implement the Individual Education
Plan with fidelity
? Keep accurate and complete records including Accommodation Plans, Service Logs, Student Monitoring documents for
identified under IDEA as required
? Maintain and submit the required data, reports, and records, and documents required by the district, state, and federal
laws.
? Establish & maintain communication with administrators, personnel, and families on the progress of the student
? Assist in evaluating students who have been referred to the special education program for determining eligibility
? Participate with teachers, parent(s), and campus administrators in determining eligibility for SPED services
? Advocate for SPED/504 Students to ensure they have an equitable educational opportunity
? Train and provide support to general education personnel on implementing accommodations and modifications as
outlined on the IEP
? Ensure timely dissemination of modifications, accommodations, and IEPs to the related teachers and personnel and keep
related documentation
? Plan, prepare, and facilitate the programming conferences and annual review conferences for the next school year
? Work with campus 504/Dyslexia Coordinator to maintain compliance with Section 504.
? Understand and explain IDEA/Section 504 law/procedures, test results and information to parents and teachers as
necessary
? Coordinate services with other involved school personnel in planning and providing joint instruction for students
? Collaborate with parents, teachers and other relevant staff members in developing and implementing interventions
? Assume responsibility for instructional materials and equipment inventoried to the assigned school
? Attend district and campus meetings involving reading programs and programs for students with dyslexia
? Attend training in methods and strategies that services and student support
? Provide assistance & inclusive practices to classroom teachers by helping them identify appropriate strategies on the
delivery of regular classroom reading instructions to identified students
? Assess relation between student performance and the special needs eligibility
? Implement, both by instruction and action, Harmony's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
? Attend Discipline Committee Meetings to discuss Disciplinary Consequences when the discipline infraction involves a
student with special needs
? Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations
? Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors and coworkers
? Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents
? Perform other special education teacher duties when applicable
? Perform other duties as assigned
