SUMMARY

Foodlink’s community health and nutrition education offerings create opportunities for community members to learn about cooking, nutrition and food resource management. Our Community Health Educators will effectively connect with SNAP-eligible audiences to conduct person-centered workshops. We talk with community members about the impact that food has on our bodies, our families, and our communities. All workshops and educational opportunities are designed to be accessible, engaging, and useful for participants. Programming can be conducted virtually, at Foodlink, or at community sites across the region.

Community Health Educators are part of the Community Health Programs Team and report to the Director of Community-Based Strategies. This role requires skills in culinary arts, nutrition education, and grants management, as well as experience working with a broad spectrum of community members of all ages and ability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Implement Foodlink community health and nutrition programming

  • Lead and facilitate programming
  • Become an expert in all Foodlink and JSY approved curricula
  • Coordinate and manage day-to-day operations of Foodlink health and nutrition programming including materials management, data management, and class planning
  • Plan programming to meet participant needs and interests, including workshops, series-based programming, peer-to-peer learning, and indirect health and nutrition programs.
  • Participate in the development of new nutrition programming to strengthen existing Foodlink programs, including the Curbside Market, Community Farm, and Foodlink Community Café.

Meet Grant Deliverables for JSY and other relevant health education contracts

  • Conduct policy systems and environmental (“PSE”) change work as described in JSY work plan
  • Work with Member Services team to implement Healthy Pantry initiative
  • Manage all necessary data tracking and evaluation for JSY and any other relevant grants

Support relationships with partners

  • Work with Director of Community-Based Strategies to seek out partnerships for expanded programming
  • Support Foodlink programs, services, and partners with health and nutrition education programming
  • Work with Marketing/Development to create outreach, communication and implementation materials
  • Attend community-based events and health fairs on an as-needed basis

Secondary roles and responsibilities.

  • Support other organizational priorities, as defined by the supervisor, given the flexibility required of all staff in a fast-paced, growing organization
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s degree in Nutrition with two (2) years community outreach and education experience working with low-income populations
  • Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read and write proficiently) in English required. Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read and write proficiently) in Spanish a plus. Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and with cultural competence through verbal, written and electronic methods.
  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity
  • Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize multiple tasks, deadlines, requirements, and priorities to complete work in a timely manner and within established deadlines
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record, have access to a vehicle and be willing to travel within Foodlink’s 10 county service area and meet travel requirements of this position
  • Ability to work flexible hours which will include evenings and/or weekends
  • Ability to transport/move supplies and equipment, climb stairs with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Experience with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams; Google Suite, and Canva
  • Ability to maintain ServSafe certification

Preferred candidates will also have:

  • BS or higher, or equivalent education and experience, in nutrition, public health, or a related field
  • 3+ years experience in community nutrition with teaching, facilitating, or learning about health education
  • Strong culinary skills, able to demonstrate basic culinary skills like using a knife safely
  • Knowledge of gardening education best practices (i.e Farm to School)
  • Experience leading school-based programming for learners of different ages and abilities
  • Experience with participant-centered approaches to health education
  • Familiarity with the community in which the work will take place is strongly preferred
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector

SALARY AND BENEFITS

This is a full-time position paid on an hourly basis, ranging from $23.91 - $31.03 DOE. Foodlink covers 100% of individual health and dental insurance with the ability to acquire family coverage with pretax dollars. In addition to generous paid time off (PTO), we observe 14 paid holidays throughout the year. Opportunity to contribute to a 401k retirement savings plan upon hire. Eligible for generous employer match after 1 year of service.
