AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient Care:

  • Greets patients in a courteous manner by identifying self and explaining the procedure to be performed. Follows established policy for identifying patient.
  • Completes blood drawing procedure according to established policy, using appropriate equipment for the patients veins and appropriate tubes for tests ordered.
  • Accurately labels the specimen immediately after blood draw, with at least two unique identifiers.
  • Performs blood draws according to specific times requested or priority ordered.
  • Follows established policies for collection of special tests (PKU and blood cultures).
  • Utilizes age related concepts when communicating with patients and families, and obtaining blood or body fluid samples for analysis.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols; following identification procedures.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects the hospital by keeping information confidential.

Office Support:

  • Reviews and revises policies and procedures as needed.
  • Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, and verifying receipt of supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Current Washington State Department of Health Medical Assistant Phlebotomy license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Successful completion of a phlebotomy training program/course as outlined under WAC246-827-0400(2) at the time of application.
  • AHA BLS/CPR certified within 30 days of hire and maintained while employed.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a laboratory or related science experience.
  • Experience working in a critical access hospital.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position is primarily worked in a clinical environment. The position will require the ability to lift, and carry, up to 50 pounds and push or pull over 50 pounds. The position will require bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, reaching overhead, sitting and standing frequently. Occasionally the position requires climbing, kneeling and crawling. The position requires continuous finger dexterity and fine manipulation. All basic life functions such as hearing, seeing, speaking, standing and walking are required.

The employee must demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Pay Range:

$22.00 - $38.50

Compensation: New hires should expect to start at the lower end of the range; actual pay offered will vary based on years of experience.
