Plant Health Care Specialist

Position: Plant Health Care Specialist

Description: The Plant Health Care (PHC) Specialist (aka IPM Specialist), is responsible for the highest level of service offered to the clients of Wonderland Tree Care + Landscape through our ArboRx program. ArboRx is a proactive Plant Health Care program designed to monitor the condition of the plants and their environment through periodic inspections of the property. The PHC Specialist diagnosis issues and predicts potential issues and administers treatments to improve the health of the property. Treatments may include EPA regulated products, nutrients, or cultural activities. The PHC Specialist must be able to complete all the responsibilities with the highest level of proficiency and can mentor and train other members of the PHC Department.

Responsibilities:
• Effectively communicate with all members of Wonderland
• Effectively schedule daily routes with properly timed visits and treatments.
• Organize and store products received daily (shared with PHC Technician)
• Adhere to and follow all required techniques necessary in applying materials for treatment of insects and disease, along with fertilization in a safe effective manner. Able to work efficiently, safely, and effectively with limited/ no supervision.
• Openly communicates with Arborist Representative regarding client’s property and needs.
• Properly Identify Insect/ Disease/ Cultural issues and prescribe appropriate corrective treatments.

Qualifications:
• Strong knowledge of Tree Biology and Anatomy
• Proficient tree pest and disease identification skills.
• Strong knowledge of soils, nutrients, soil biology and the interaction with plants.
• Ability to identify the products required to complete assigned daily tasks.

Requirements:
• ISA Arborist Certification or the ability to attain within 6 months of promotion.
• New York State Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator License, Category 3A, or ability to attain within 2 months.
• Clean Driving Record (Required) / CDL class A or B license (air brakes preferred).
• A degree in Arboriculture, Plant Science, Horticulture, Entomology, Pathology or a related field preferred. (Preferred)
• Safe work habits that include the use of all PPE required for the designated daily tasks.
• Strong leadership, decision making and communication skills.
• Thorough understanding of Integrated Pest Management and non-traditional insect & disease control.
