Salary: $23.50

Tubman is seeking a Shelter Youth & Family Worker to join a dynamic and collaborative team to support the agency’s mission, vision, and values. This position is based at our Maplewood Shelter.

The schedule is typically Monday-Friday, 11:30am-8pm 3 days per week and 10am-6:30pm 2 days per week, with flexibility to support client and program needs.

Responsibilities

  • Promote child and family healing through creation of positive environment, provision of comprehensive activities to support goals, and respite childcare.
  • Create safe and supportive relationships with child shelter residents.
  • Provides individualized services to children 0-10 as needed; maintaining consistent contact.
  • Provides advocacy and support using a strength based, non-judgmental and youth centered approach.
  • Completes intake and assessment, goal plans, progress reports, and exit reports for children.
  • Use developmental intervention strategies with children to facilitate their social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth.
  • Provides transportation to youth for appointments and commitments related to goal areas as needed.
  • Provide education, instruction, distraction, and relaxation techniques to meet needs of children and caregivers.
  • Plan, direct and implement educational/support groups and activities for children and their families to minimize stress, maintain normalcy, and promote growth and development and peer interaction.
  • Provide respite childcare and transportation as needed.
  • Assists in providing training, mentoring, and development of new staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Directly supervises Youth & Family Worker interns.
  • Completes necessary paperwork, data entry, case notes, and administrative work related to client services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or 4 years equivalent applicable experience, preferably in domestic violence and/or child services.
  • Minimum 2 years applicable experience with children who have experienced trauma.
  • Ability to welcome and engage a diverse group of stakeholders with a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, extensive walking, standing, and lift to 50 pounds.
  • Set and uphold professional boundaries.
  • Understand and work from the agency’s set of values and philosophical approaches; including harm-reduction/housing first, trauma-informed care, violence as a learned behavior, client-centered and led work, etc.
  • Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, extensive walking, standing, and lift to 50 pounds
  • Pass DHS Fingerprint Criminal Background Study as required by program licensing 

Preferred Candidate

  • Have access to reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license and insurance, and maintain a good driving record.
  • Experience in implementing interventions to support complex trauma.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence related issues and systems.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary for the position is $23.50 per hour.
