Onward Search Education is partnering with a school district in Kankakee County, IL to hire two Special Education Teachers for the 2025–2026 school year.
Location: Kankakee County, IL
Start Date: August 11, 2025
End Date: June 1, 2026
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday
Grade Level: K–3
Hours: Approximately 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM (subject to school schedule)
Key Responsibilities - Provide individualized instruction in a DESTINY classroom setting , designed for students with significant needs (Autism, Intellectual Disability, Developmental Delay) in grades K–3.
- Deliver lessons to small groups (up to 6 students per class) with the support of 3–4 paraprofessionals per room.
- Create a highly structured, language-rich environment that supports the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tools to promote student communication.
- Teach and support functional life skills such as dressing, toileting, feeding, and transitioning between activities.
- Foster student engagement through individualized instruction, embedded routines, and a predictable classroom structure with clear physical and visual boundaries.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including related service providers (PT, OT, SLP, Social Work) and district consultants (Autism Specialist and BCBA).
- Monitor student progress and adapt instruction to ensure growth across communication, academic, and functional domains.
Qualifications

- Valid Illinois PEL with LBS1 endorsement (or eligibility to obtain).
- Experience working with students with significant disabilities is preferred.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
