Top Stack is working with a local company to find a new sales tax analyst for their team. Job Summary:

The Tax Analyst is responsible for ensuring compliance with sales tax regulations and managing sales tax-related activities for the company. This role involves preparing and filing sales tax returns, maintaining accurate records, analyzing tax data, and assisting with audits and tax planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sales Tax Compliance: Prepare and file accurate sales tax returns for various jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze sales transactions and tax data to ensure proper sales tax treatment and identify any discrepancies or areas for improvement.
  • Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of sales tax transactions, exemptions, and credits.
  • Audits: Assist with sales tax audits by gathering necessary documentation, responding to auditor inquiries, and implementing audit recommendations.
  • Research: Stay current with changes in sales tax laws and regulations, and provide recommendations to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports related to sales tax liabilities, credits, and exemptions, and present findings to management.
  • Systems Management: Support the maintenance and enhancement of sales tax software and systems, ensuring they are properly configured for compliance.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Legal, to resolve sales tax issues and ensure accurate tax treatment of transactions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in sales tax processes.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Experience: 2-4 years of experience in sales tax or a related field. Experience with sales tax compliance and reporting is preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of sales tax laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
