PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Airway Heights Police Department administers the West Plains Victim Services, funded
through a state grant. Our mission is to eliminate violence in the West Plains by promoting
healing and empowerment through support services and education.
This program offers advocacy in various areas, including domestic violence, sexual assault,
stalking, dating violence, legal assistance, medical support, emergency aid, support groups,
counseling referrals, and community education.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Victim Services Advocate will focus on supporting, empowering, and educating victims of
violence while facilitating outreach to access necessary support services. This role involves
identifying barriers faced by victims and survivors, enhancing safety, increasing awareness, and
providing options for obtaining resources.
Additionally, the Victim Services Advocate will encourage independent decision-making based
on the individual needs and circumstances of each victim. The Advocate will serve as a
supportive liaison, assisting individuals and families in accessing protection and services that
respect their cultural and community backgrounds.
DUTIES
Conduct needs assessments for participants to identify barriers and strategies to
enhance safety.
Protects and promotes safety for all victims/survivors and their dependent children while
building on the strengths and resources of individuals and families.
Establish a multidisciplinary team that includes housing providers, landlords, and service
providers in the West Plains region.
Makes contracts and fosters collaborative working relationships and cooperation among
local and regional agencies.
Provide mobile advocacy and conduct site visits to individual agencies.
General office operations including answering phones, scheduling appointments,
drafting correspondence, and preparing reports and evaluations as requested.
Provide timely, accurate, and complete reporting into electronic data system, subject to
regular review by supervisory staff.
Must always maintain and enforce strict confidentiality requirements, including but not
limited to personally identifying information, confidential communications, reports,
records, and all other documentation maintained by the Victim Services Advocate.
Conducts education and outreach activities.
Attend training and conferences as requested and required by funding organization. All
travel expenses will be paid by the Airway Heights Police Department.
Additional duties as assigned.
JOB CONDITIONS
The Victim Services Advocate will work from a combination of the Airway Heights Police
Department, the Hope & Healing Center in Airway Heights, and community settings as required.
Typical work schedule will be Monday Friday, 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Regular working hours
may vary.
EXPECTATIONS
Clear written and oral communication with supervisor, coworkers, clients, and
community partners.
Regular visits with participants, either in the community or at the Hope Center.
On-time, accurate, and complete paperwork support for participants in the form of case
notes, applications for services, and paper file requirements.
Trauma-informed practices and communication with participants.
Active engagement at work to enhance program delivery and provide quality services.
Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Professional behavior guided by the code of ethics related to your discipline
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field OR
Ten (10) years of continuous working experience in victims of violence advocacy.
Must complete a City of Airway Heights Job Application.
Must pass a Background Check.
Education/Licenses/Certifications:
High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required
Current Washington Driver's License and reliable transportation.
