The Position: We are looking for an Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter. Starting pay is $21.00/hour with full benefits. · Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of the ARFF crew by operating apparatus, hose lines and/or turrets, aircraft and building evacuations, forced entries into aircraft or vehicles, raise and climbs ladders, and uses chemical extinguishers, hand tools, power tools, and other equipment in performance of ARFF Duties.
  • Responds to a variety of aircraft related emergencies including standby details for in-flight situations including aircraft equipment problems and homeland security threats, crashes of commercial, civilian, or military aircraft, in-flight or ground hazardous materials incidents, fuel spills, and special maintenance or other safety related requirements.
  • Responds to a variety of medical emergencies, including sudden illness, personal injury accidents, accidents with machinery, and motor vehicle accidents; administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation, automated external defibrillation, and uses other medical equipment and procedures in providing emergency medical care in accordance to level of training and local protocols.
  • Will be trained in and will respond to homeland security incidents.
  • Will inspect airport facilities to gain compliance with airport rules and regulations, FAA regulations, and life safety issues and to become familiar with the building contents and the surrounding areas.
  • Participates in and conducts group and individual training and drill sessions related to ARFF and emergency medical care as per FAR Part 139. Also participates in SIDA, AOA, Airfield Driver, Notam and airport self inspections training. All training documentation must show the completion of Part 139 Training during the previous 12 months.
  • Performs general/grounds maintenance work in the upkeep of the Public Safety Building and ARFF equipment, assist with PSO tours, assist with maintenance and upkeep of training records.
  • Maintains a high level of bearing and Professional appearance.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment at all times.
  • Responsible for maintaining confidential information as required
  • Responsible for any other duties as may be assigned.
  • Responsible for maintenance duties as directed.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Primary Contacts: Operations Manager, employees, tenants, public and passengers, aviation personnel and visitors.
  • Physical Demands: Some exposure to aircraft noise and fuel, daily contact with chemical and airport construction. Potential exposure to aircraft and vehicle accidents. Position requires much standing, bending, keening, reaching, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting and walking. Some exposure to inclement weather and must maintain physical fitness pertinent to work and be able to function in an aquatic environment.
  • Working Conditions: Working hours are routinely 40 hours a week dependent upon scheduled shift. Must be willing to work any shift, weekends and holidays. Due to the nature of responsibilities, it may require longer work hours or post shift callback based on the needs of operation. The ARFF schedule can change at any time and employees must be able to adapt based on the needs of the department/airport

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old and live within 90 minutes of the airport at the time of employment.
  • Education/Knowledge: High School diploma/GED. First Responder medical training required. Must possess a valid North Carolina Class “C” driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and the ability to maintain insurability by ILM. Must obtain Airport Firefighter 40-hour course. Must be able to obtain boating safety course and operate a boat with provided in-house training for emergency response.
  • Experience: Must be Fire 1 and 2 certified. EMR preferred but not required.
  • Skills/Aptitudes: Must be able to fully participate as a member of the ARFF team, operate fire and rescue equipment, and perform lifesaving/safety functions. Must be able to react quickly and calmly in emergencies and be able to operate motor vehicles in dangerous situations.
