Overview Sprout is a global IT hardware retirement provider for hyperscaler and enterprise clients. We leverage a global footprint combined with proprietary software to enable efficient end-to-end IT asset disposition with a focus on data-bearing devices from the client to the cloud. The company is headquartered in Charlotte (US) with additional operations near Sacramento (US), Dallas (US), Boston (US), and Manchester (UK). Sprout provides software and services to clients in the form of our IT Asset Disposition, Certified Destruction, and Responsible Recycling solutions. We are looking to hire our inaugural General Counsel (GC) to join Sprout’s senior leadership team at our Charlotte, NC headquarters and help shape the future of our company. This is a rare opportunity to step into a high-impact leadership role at a fast-growing, global business where legal strategy is central to the mission. As GC, you won’t just be keeping the company safe—you’ll be a strategic partner to the CEO, Board, and executive and senior leadership teams, driving decisions that shape our growth, our culture, and our reputation. We are looking for someone with both the breadth of experience to navigate complex regulatory frameworks and the conviction to provide clear, principled advice when the stakes are high. Responsibilities Serve as the CEO’s and Board’s trusted advisor on all legal, regulatory, and governance matters. Guide the company through complex, cross-border issues including trade compliance and export controls, environmental regulation, potential future M&A activity, and labor & employment law, among other areas. Structure and negotiate high-stakes transactions and partnerships that enable business growth. Lead a high-performing legal team; establish scalable compliance and risk management programs. Anticipate and mitigate risk while finding creative, practical solutions that move the business forward. Communicate with clarity and confidence—especially when the right answer isn’t the most popular one. Qualifications 10+ years of legal experience, including significant in-house experience, preferably with expertise in one or more of the following areas: export controls / trade compliance, environmental regulation, workplace safety, general corporate, and labor & employment law. A proven track record of making hard decisions, standing firm under pressure, and effectively communicating those decisions to diverse stakeholders. Exceptional judgment, with the ability to balance business, legal, and reputational considerations. Strong executive presence and communication skills; able to influence at the Board and executive level. Builder and leader of teams with high standards of accountability and performance. JD from a leading law school; bar admission in good standing. Pragmatic, commercially minded, and solutions-oriented. Courageous and decisive—able to hold the line when needed. Resilient under pressure, with the ability to earn trust and respect even when delivering unwelcome advice. Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills, using EQ to bring stakeholders along without compromising on principle.
