A well established professional service firm in Sacramento is currently seeking a highly engaged and forward-thinking Senior Accountant . The Senior Accountant has direct responsibility for client engagements. This position is not only an essential part of client services team, but it also assists with initiatives that support key organizational values.

This is a chance to join a collaborative and highly professional services firm. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background - CPA or CPA candidate preferred but not required. To be successful, the candidate is a self-starter who is goal-oriented and possesses strong critical thinking and commination skills.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Client Accounting Functions:

1) Reconcile subledgers (including supporting subledgers outside the accounting system) to general ledger.

2) Assist clients in recording accounting entries, including deposits, client and vendor invoices.

3) Reconcile monthly bank accounts.

4) Reconcile all balance sheet accounts.

5) Assist in the reconciliation of the general ledger to outside programs including Bill.Com and Dext.

6) Prepare month end and year end journal entries.

7) Assist clients in preparing allocation entries.8) Review general ledger coding to ensure proper classification and cutoff.

9) Assist in the maintenance and reconciliation of fixed asset subledgers.

10) Review monthly profit and loss statements for completeness and accuracy.

11) Investigate and report on variances.

12) Assist in budget preparation and preparing the budget to actual variance reports.

13) Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports, including balance sheet, profit and loss statements, cash flow, and key indicators.

14) Assist the client in preparing and submitting quarterly sales tax returns, annual property tax returns, and welfare exemptions.

15) Assist in the preparation of annual 1099s for vendors.

16) Handle a variety of special projects and other related duties, as assigned.

Client Service Functions:

1) Develop solid working relationships with clients and client staff.

2) Assist with annual audit preparations, including financial audit, single audit, and workers compensation.

3) Asist clients in investigation and resolution of audit findings.

4) Assist in the preparation of client audit reports.

5) Assist in the preparation of client compilation reports.

6) Prepare supporting documentation for preparation of the annual tax return.

7) Assist in the preparation of client’s annual tax returns.

Client Education Functions:

1) Work with clients to establish and maintain accounting processes and procedures including best practice recommendations.

2) Work with clients to establish and maintain internal control procedures including best practice recommendations.

3) Mentor and train client’s accounting staff.

4) Advise clients on proper accounting treatment of unusual transactions.

5) Educate clients on the use of accounting software.

6) Assist client in utilizing accounting and supporting software functionality.

7) Ensure clients are in compliance with all new accounting pronouncements.

Qualifications and Experience:

1) Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and 3 years’ experience in accounting. Equivocal direct experience may be substituted for formal education

2) CPA or CPA candidate preferred but not required.

3) Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

4) Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

5) Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including excellent MS Excel.

6) Technically savvy, quick to learn new technology and web-based programs.
